American Unity PAC

American Unity PAC is “focused exclusively on protecting and promoting [Republican] candidates for U.S. House and U.S. Senate” who support LGBTQ rights.[1] The Super PAC and its associated policy wing, American Unity Fund, are financed by a small group of donors led by financial moguls Paul Singer and Seth Klarman.[2] According to FEC records, Singer has given $5.7 million to the PAC since its founding in 2012.[3]

In 2014, American Unity PAC made $4.8 million in independent expenditures, with over 95% occurring in U.S. House races.[4] The group played a role both in Republican primaries – with its assistance to Rep. Richard Hanna’s (R-NY) successful bid for re-nomination described as “decisive” – and in general election contests.[5][6]

As of December 31, 2015, American Unity PAC reported that it held $1.9 million cash-on-hand.[7] In April, it spent over $250,000 to help Republican House candidate Ben West in his primary.[8] West lost by 37 percentage points.[9]
