A 33-year-old son of refugees from Africa, Joe Neguse is an attorney, civic leader, and public servant who has spent his career fighting to expand opportunities for families across Colorado. After graduating from college, Joe co-founded New Era Colorado, the state’s largest youth voter registration and mobilization nonprofit in Colorado. Later, voters chose Joe to serve on the Colorado University Board of Regents. Joe became the second African-American to be elected Regent in Colorado’s history. As a Regent, Joe fought to make higher education more affordable and accessible, and to build consensus on tough issues. After his six-year term on the Board, Joe was appointed to lead the state’s consumer protection agency, where he led the fight to expand economic opportunities by protecting the civil rights of every Coloradan and strengthening consumer protections and safeguards.
Joe has dedicated his adult life to building a stronger and safer America. He knows how to listen to and stand up for real, everyday Coloradans—not Big Money billionaires and their legions of lobbyists. We’re excited to support Joe as a leader of a new generation, ready push for bold solutions to our most pressing problem: the erosion of democracy’s most important principle—the right of every individual’s voice to carry real weight in the hallowed halls of government.
