Congressman Mark Takano has dedicated his life to public service. Mark’s family has called California home ever since his grandparents settled in Riverside, California, after being released from a Japanese American Internment Camp. After graduating from Harvard University, Mark returned to California and became a teacher at Rialto High. In 2013, Congressman Takano became the first openly gay person of color to serve in the United States Congress. Unafraid to challenge the status quo, he has dedicated himself to creating a country that is as representative of its people as it is prosperous.
His mission to serve California has compelled Congressman Takano to now advocate on behalf of democracy itself. After Citizens United stripped everyday Americans of their voice in government, Congressman Takano has worked tirelessly to return power to the people and unrig the system.
