After graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1994, Mikie Sherrill spent almost 10 years on active duty in the United States Navy. As a Sea King Helicopter pilot, Mikie flew missions throughout Europe and the Middle East. After leaving the Navy in 2003, Mikie attended law school, earning a degree from Georgetown University. She eventually joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey, where she developed programs to help prevent crime in the community by developing trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mikie prosecuted federal cases and advised law enforcement on investigations. She lives in Montclair, New Jersey, with her husband and four children.
Mikie sees the ways in which representatives in Washington have tuned their ears to the melody of corporate cash, and deafened themselves to the voices of the people they are supposed to represent. She is running for Congress to fight the manipulation of our democracy by politicians who write the rules to benefit their special interest donors. Mikie believes that we can do better. She believes that we can stop the flood of dark money and shadow donors in our democracy, and together create a more fair, more free, and less fearful future.
