Patrick Murphy

U.S. Representative and Candidate for U.S. Senate, Florida

Last year, Republicans snuck in a provision that eased campaign contributions within the funding bill that avoided a government shutdown. Rep. Murphy cosponsored the Close the Floodgates Act “to repeal this dangerous attempt to roll back a major tenant of campaign finance reform that has been the law of the land for 44 years.” – Patrick Murphy

About Representative Murphy:

Congressman Patrick Murphy represents Florida’s 18th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Born and raised in Florida, Patrick worked as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for Deloitte & Touche before starting an environmental cleanup business. He was first elected to Congress in 2012 after defeating Tea Party firebrand Allen West.

In Congress, Murphy has focused on championing the middle class, strengthening Social Security and Medicare for future generations, protecting Florida’s environment and precious coastline, and breaking through the partisan gridlock in Washington. He currently serves on the House Financial Services Committee and the Intelligence Committee, where he works on national security issues.

As a native Floridian, Murphy also understands the importance of protecting the environment and the role it plays in the local economy. He is a strong supporter of restoration efforts for Florida’s rivers, waterways, and the Everglades. These projects not only protect important ecosystems, but are found to have a major return on investment. In 2014, Patrick was named Champion of the Everglades by the Florida Audubon Society.

Congressman Murphy is working to protect the middle class and the American dream. He is campaigning across Florida for the U.S. Senate to strengthen Social Security and Medicare, grow the middle class, and ensure the doors of justice and opportunity are open to every Floridan.

"I will be a strong advocate for more transparency and accountability in our government and in campaigns. Our system is broken and unaccountable, dark money is ruining our political process and driving Americans’ confidence in their government and electoral process down to an all-time low. We must work together to restore the power of the people." - Stephanie Murphy
