Peter represents Oregon’s fourth district and is the longest serving House member in the state’s history, having been first elected in 1986. In lieu of accepting his pay raises, Peter gives them back to the Oregon community, funding scholarships at five Oregon community colleges. He stood up against Wall Street interests, supporting the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Peter will fight for campaign finance reform that will level the playing field to make a government that better represents regular Americans, instead of only the wealthy and elite. He is dean of the Oregon House delegation and lives in Springfield with his wife.
