Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce

Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce has been described as the Koch network’s “central hub” and “main bank.”[1] Per the Center for Responsive Politics, “Unlike other Koch-linked dark money groups that give out large grants… Freedom Partners is not a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization, but a 501(c)(6) trade association. [It] has burst on the scene as one of the 10 largest trade associations in the U.S.”[2] Since Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce is a tax-exempt organization, it is not required to disclose its donors. As of September 2013, the organization had 48 employees.[3] By the end of 2014, its size had nearly tripled to 133 employees.[4]

In 2012, the group disbursed $236 million in grants to Koch network members and other allies.[5] Non-network recipients included the National Rifle Association, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Heritage Action, and the Tea Party Patriots.[6] In 2013, it spent another $41.7 million, mostly to other groups.[7] In 2014, the group spent $129 million – nearly half of the Koch network’s estimated $290 million in spending.[8][9] The same year, the group also spent “more than $7 million [on] issue-based attack ads targeting Democratic candidates.”[10] Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce also has a Super PAC spinoff, Freedom Partners Action Fund.[11]

In June 2015, the Washington Post released a copy of the Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce questionnaire for presidential candidates.[12]
