Fight for donor disclosure — tell Congress to pass the K.O.C.H. Act!

May 13, 2015

Here are the names of some real groups that attacked President Obama in 2012:

“RESTORE OUR FUTURE”
“AMERICAN CROSSROADS”
“CLUB FOR GROWTH”
“AMERICANS FOR PROSPERITY”
“FREEDOM WORKS”

They sound innocuous enough. But they’re actually right-wing front-groups for the likes of Karl Rove and the Koch Brothers.

Voters deserve to know who’s behind the deceptive ads flooding our airwaves.

The Keeping Our Campaigns Honest Act (K.O.C.H. Act) would do just that — forcing SuperPACs and dark money groups to disclose major donors at the end of their ads.

The Federal Elections Commission (FEC) has all but given up when it comes to enforcing campaign finance regulations.

Instead of relying on the dysfunctional FEC, the K.O.C.H. Act gives the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) the authority to force disclosure for television ads.

This creative bill won’t overturn Citizens United, but it gets us one step closer to more transparent campaigns.

But if Democrats are going to get this bill through Congress, it’ll take a tremendous grassroots effort.
