ECU: Senators Have One More Chance to Do the Right Thing

Oct 05, 2018

End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement ahead of the Senate’s final vote on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

“Judge Kavanaugh has proved himself unfit to serve on the United States Supreme Court. His extreme judicial record in favor of giving corporate special interests and mega donors more power and influence risks serious political corruption. Further, several courageous women have come forward to share their stories of his history of sexual assault. We believe these women, who were not provided the opportunity to offer their corroborating evidence. In his testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Judge Kavanaugh repeated his history of lying under oath, showed his true partisan colors, and demonstrated that he does not have the temperament to serve on our nation’s highest court.

“We applaud Senators Donnelly, Heitkamp, McCaskill, Tester, and Murkowski for stepping up and opposing cloture on this historically bad nominee. With one more vote to go on final passage, there is still time for senators to do the right thing. The vote count is close, and Senators Collins, Flake, Gardner, and Manchin still have the opportunity to be on the right side of history and vote to reject Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court.”
