End Citizens United Endorses Bob Casey, Heidi Heitkamp and Sheldon Whitehouse for U.S. Senate

May 03, 2017

Washington, DC – End Citizens United (ECU) today announced its latest round of endorsements for the 2018 cycle with Bob Casey in Pennsylvania, Heidi Heitkamp in North Dakota and Sheldon Whitehouse in Rhode Island.

The endorsements will allow ECU to connect those candidates with its over 143,000 grassroots members across the three states and run advocacy activities to elevate campaign finance as a critical campaign issue. ECU will also activate its 330,000 small-dollar national donors to help make sure the candidates have the resources to win.

End Citizens United President and Executive Director Tiffany Muller shared the following statement on the news: “Senators Casey, Heitkamp and Whitehouse are tremendous leaders and made it an easy decision to endorse them. They have been champions fighting for reform and know we need to end the tidal wave of special interest money trying to buy our elections. We can’t solve the issues facing the middle class until we get to the root of the problem and get Big Money out of politics.”

As an example of ECU’s impact, in the Georgia 6th district special election, ECU members have raised $900,000 to help elect Jon Ossoff, and ECU was one of two groups to run a digital ad for Ossoff. In the 2016 cycle, ECU invested more than $15 million in competitive Senate and House races to help elect 15 new Members of Congress, including Senator Maggie Hassan and Senator Catherine Cortez-Masto.

ECU was the 3rd largest PAC of the 2016 cycle and is projected to raise $35 million for the 2018 cycle. Founded two years ago, today the group has over 3 million members.
