End Citizens United Endorses Carol Shea-Porter for Congress

Dec 02, 2015

WASHINGTON – Today, End Citizens United (ECU) PAC officially endorsed Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter for the U.S. House of Representatives in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District.  End Citizens United is a grassroots organization that is dedicated to electing members of Congress who will fight to overturn Citizens United and advocate for campaign finance reform.

“Money in politics has gotten out of control, and bold leaders like Carol Shea-Porter are fighting to clean up our election system.” said Richard Carbo, Communications Director for End Citizens United.  “Voters in New Hampshire are tired of corporations and billionaires having an unfair advantage, and they are willing to stand up to politicians who are looking out for the special interests trying to buy elections.  We need Carol Shea-Porter in Congress, and our grassroots supporters are committed to sending her back to Congress next year.”

“In Congress, I’ve championed campaign finance reform, but I’m also leading by example,” said Congresswoman Shea-Porter.  “My campaign does not accept contributions from corporate PACs or DC lobbyists.  My only commitment is to the people of New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District.  Our founders intended for the people, not corporations, to elect our leaders, and I am excited to work with End Citizens United to fight for campaign finance reform.”

End Citizens United supports candidates who are committed to campaign finance reform.  In Congress, Congresswoman Shea-Porter fought for more transparency and accountability in our election system.  She supported the DISCLOSE Act, and more importantly, she has always rejected contributions from corporate PACs and DC lobbyists to her campaign.

End Citizens United was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects of Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system.  To date, ECU has raised more than $5.5 million from approximately 400,000 contributions, with an average contribution of less than $14.  In addition, more than 500,000 grassroots supporters have signed their name to an online petition calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.

Last month, ECU launched an aggressive online public awareness campaign with its first web ad.  The new ad, filmed in various locations across the country, features ECU supporters who are fed up with the influence of money in politics.  The new web ad can be viewed by clicking here.
