End Citizens United Endorses Kyrsten Sinema for U.S. Senate

Oct 12, 2017

PHOENIX, AZ — End Citizens United (ECU) today announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema for U.S. Senate in Arizona. Sinema is committed to bringing transparency and accountability to Washington, where special interests spend unlimited money, often in secret, to influence elections.

“ECU is thrilled to endorse Kyrsten Sinema for U.S. Senate,” said Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United. “Congresswoman Sinema has been an independent voice for Arizona families and believes the people should hold the power in our democracy. ECU is proud to stand with Congresswoman Sinema against the Big Money special interests.”

“Arizonans are sick and tired of a broken Washington selling them out to special interests donors, which is why I have consistently worked to increase transparency in our democracy, and to reduce the influence of money on our electoral system,” said Sinema. “These are the types of problems we can solve if we work together, and I look forward to working with End Citizens United to return the power and the voice back to the people of Arizona.”

Congresswoman Sinema is committed to unrigging the system and stopping big money in politics. In Congress, she has voted against legislation that allowed mega-donors to keep their identities secret and funnel money.

Senator Flake voted against McCain-Feingold, the bipartisan campaign finance reform bill which sought to curb the influence of soft money in our elections, and as both a senator and a representative voted against the DISCLOSE Act.

A recent study shows that 90% of Americans believe special interests are running the government, and research conducted by ECU found that two out of every three voters believe the amount of money in politics affects their everyday lives.

In 2016, ECU endorsed Congresswoman Sinema’s successful re-election campaign for Congress. ECU’s endorsement this cycle will allow the grassroots-funded PAC to connect its 88,000 members in Arizona with Sinema’s campaign and activate its 380,000 small-dollar donors to help ensure she has the resources to take on the outside special interests. ECU will also help elevate campaign finance reform as a critical campaign issue through a number of advocacy activities throughout the state.

The group, founded in March 2015, has raised more than $2 million directly for its endorsed candidates through small-dollar, grassroots donations this cycle.
