End Citizens United Raises $250,000 for Jon Ossoff

As the Ossoff campaign hits the airwaves, ECU announces 25,000 grassroots members have given an average contribution of $10

End Citizens United (ECU) today announced that its grassroots members have given a quarter of a million dollars in small-dollar donations directly to Jon Ossoff’s campaign since ECU endorsed his candidacy less than two weeks ago.  Twenty-five thousand donors have given an average contribution of $10 to Ossoff’s campaign.  Ossoff is running in a special election to represent Georgia’s 6th Congressional District.

Ossoff, who has pledged to serve as a check on President Trump, continues to build momentum in the race and hit the airwaves with three new ads last week.

“The corporate special interests and Washington insiders who believe this seat belongs to them are having a rude awakening,” said End Citizens United Executive Director Tiffany Muller.  “They’re panicked because Georgia families want to end the rigged system in Washington and the grassroots are mobilizing to elect a reformer.  ECU’s members will continue to stand with Jon Ossoff to help him fend off the corporate spending that’s already flooding into the race to attack him.”

Last week, the Congressional Leadership Fund, a Washington Super PAC, launched a $1.1 million ad buy attacking Ossoff.  ECU immediately called on its grassroots network to help defend and push back against a barrage of negative attack ads by the Super PAC, which can raise unlimited amounts of money from mega-donors and corporate special interests.

ECU was one of the first progressive groups in the country to support Ossoff’s campaign.  The group has 40,000 members in the Atlanta metropolitan area and 70,000 across Georgia.  The grassroots-funded political action committee (PAC) is dedicated to electing members of Congress who, like Ossoff, will fight to overturn Citizens Unitedand pass meaningful campaign finance reform.

End Citizens United was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects of the Citizens United decision and reform our campaign finance system.
