End Citizens United (ECU) Executive Director Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the seventh anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United v. FEC decision:

“In the seven years since the disastrous Citizens United decision, our democracy has been fundamentally altered.  Citizens United opened the floodgates for billionaires and special interests to bankroll politicians, and ultimately shut everyday Americans out of the political process.”

“Our Founding Fathers set out to establish a government of the people, by the people, and for the people – not for corporations.  But because Citizens United established a legal basis for treating corporations as people, we have seen a dramatic rise in their influence over our elections.  There’s no accountability.  No transparency.  Instead, the corrosive influence of money in politics has effectively suppressed the voices of millions of hardworking American families.  That’s not what the Founders intended.”

“At End Citizens United, our 3 million members are committed as ever to overturning Citizens United and getting Big Money out of politics.  The overwhelming majority of Americans – across all political ideologies – agree that we must implement meaningful campaign finance reform in order to make our government work for us.  They have made it clear that they won’t stand for this rigged system any longer.  The Trump-McConnell-Ryan Republicans must act now, or be swept out of power in 2018 and 2020.  Our grassroots movement has already proven that we can compete with the corporate special interests.  We’ll continue to fight back against this rigged political system by advancing reform at every level, and we’ll ultimately end Citizens United.”

End Citizens United PAC was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects ofCitizens United and reform our campaign finance system.  To date, more than 3 million grassroots members from every state and territory have taken action to support End Citizens United.
