Senate to Vote on Heller Bill that’s Gift to Equifax, Wall Street at Expense of Nevada Families

Oct 25, 2017

Heller’s Bill Would Take Away Consumer Rights to File Class-Action Lawsuits
Over the Course of His Career, Heller Received Over $20,000 from Equifax’s Lobbying Firm

Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United, released the following statement on Senator Heller’s controversial bill to block an arbitration rule that would strip consumers’ rights to file class-action lawsuits. The legislation, which Equifax lobbied for, would’ve forbidden Americans who signed up for Equifax’s credit monitoring service from taking class-action against the company following the breach this summer. The Senate is expected to vote on the bill tonight

“Dean Heller lined his pockets with Equifax lobbyist money. Now he’s driving the effort to protect the company and his big donors on Wall Street with legislation to take away consumers’ rights to file class-action lawsuits. Senator Heller is the textbook example of the need to get unchecked special interest money out of politics and to get politicians out of the pockets of special interests. Over the course of the next year, ECU will hold Senator Heller accountable for giving companies like Equifax the opportunity to increase their bottom line at the expense of everyday Nevadans.”
