Growing up in the Berkeley Heights housing project in Waterbury, Jahana is familiar with the cycle of poverty. But her values of hardwork and desire for education propelled her forward. She would go on to get a masters and advanced degrees. Jahana started her career as a social studies teacher at John F. Kennedy High School, and in 2016, she won the the National Teacher of the Year Award for her work.
As a champion for equality, Jahana is committed to stopping the corrupting influence of Big Money in politics. By rejecting corporate PAC money, she upholds her belief that representatives have a responsibility to listen to all constituents, not Big Money donors.
