Rashida Tlaib is a lawyer, advocate, and a former state Representative. Rashida was elected as state Representative in Michigan in 2008 becoming the first Muslim woman ever to serve in the Michigan Legislature. Rashida served three terms, rising to the Democratic Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, where she secured millions of dollars for free health clinics, Meals on Wheels programs for seniors, before and after-school programs, and education funding. Today Rashida is an attorney and advocate with the Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice, where she organizes campaigns to build more inclusive communities.
Rashida knows America’s future depends upon the ending of the alliance between corporate special interests and corrupt politicians. Rashida is refusing to take a dime of corporate PAC money in her campaign, proving to voters she will fight for their voices in Congress.
