Sean Casten is scientist and clean energy entrepreneur who represents Illinois’ 6th Congressional District. Casten founded a company that focused on recycling wasted energy and converting energy facilities to cleaner, more economic uses, and was a founding chairman of a nonprofit organization that advances energy efficient policies in the Northeast. Casten flipped his district in 2018, helping Democrats take the majority in the House of Representatives.
In office, Casten helped pass H.R. 1, the For the People Act, which is the most comprehensive anti-corruption and democracy reform bill to pass the House since Watergate. The bill is being denied a fair vote by Mitch McConnell and the special interests who control the U.S. Senate. H.R. 1 would take on dark money and foreign interference in our elections, fix our broken campaign finance system, tighten ethics laws, crack down on lobbyists, limit partisan gerrymandering used to manipulate elections, and expand and protect the right to vote. Casten represents a swing district in Illinois and faces a tough re-election fight in 2020.
