Underwood led the charge to pass the For the People Act, a once-in-a-generation reform bill

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement congratulating Congresswoman Lauren Underwood on being re-elected in Illinois’ 14th Congressional District:

“Congratulations to Congresswoman Lauren Underwood. Lauren has challenged Washington’s corrupt status quo since she stepped foot on Capitol Hill. In 2018, Lauren flipped this historically Republican-held seat by winning every single county in the district and campaigning on the issues that matter to Illinois families. In her first term, Congresswoman Underwood helped pass the For the People Act, the most sweeping anti-corruption, ethics, and voting rights bill in a generation in addition to legislation that would restore the Voting Rights Act. There are too many loopholes that allow foriegn governments or foreign agents to funnel money into our system to influence our elections, but she took on this important problem of addressing foreign money. We are proud to support Congresswoman Lauren Underwood and look forward to watching all she will accomplish in her second term.”

ECU and LAV endorsed Lauren Underwood for re-election in September 2019 because of her commitment to unrig the broken system in Washington. ECU raised and donated $12,100 in small dollar grassroots contributions from its members this cycle to Underwood’s campaign and hosted a virtual campaign event discussing her commitment to taking on corruption in Washington and passing reforms to end the influence of Big Money and protect the right to vote. Underwood, who ran on a platform of reform in both 2018 and 2020, showed leadership in the passage of the For the People Act (H.R.1). The reform group has four million members nationwide, including 6,300 in IL-14, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
