(National Journal) Democratic-aligned outside group End Citizens United/Let America Vote believes that Democrats’ path to victory this year is by touting their commitment to democracy. In a memo shared exclusively with Hotline, the group urges candidates to tout not just the threat to democracy from former President Trump’s allies who tried to help him overturn the 2020 election, but also the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade—which it sees as a threat to democracy—on the campaign trail. ECU argues that the overall topic of democracy has helped Democrats to have three successful election cycles in a row. The memo says: “Not only do voters know democracy is under threat in a myriad of ways, it will be a driving force for their vote in 2024.” The group, which also incorporates corruption and big-donor influence in its list of potential threats to democracy, warns that voters trust Republicans more when it comes to cracking down on corruption, citing polling from Impact Research.
