END CITIZENS UNITED, a political action committee that backs candidates who take campaign pledges to push for campaign-finance reforms once in office, raised $44 million for the 2018 midterm elections. That’s above its original goal of raising $35 million.
ECU says its donors contributed more than $800,000 directly to the campaign of Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, $500,000 to Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill’s campaign in Missouri and $430,000 directly to Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s campaign to oust GOP Sen. Ted Cruz in Texas.
The progressive group cited an average contribution of $14. Unlike super PACs, donors have limits on what they can contribute to PACs like ECU.
