A left-leaning political group filed a Congressional ethics complaint on Wednesday (10/10/18) against Republican Dave Brat.
End Citizens United accuses Brat of violating campaign finance and ethics laws by using his campaign website to sell his book, American Underdog. They also say he should have listed the book on his financial disclosure forms.
Brendan Fisher of the Campaign Legal Center said that the complaint had merit, but Brat would likely avoid fines if he updated his financial disclosure forms. “There are a wide range of pretty serious and problematic campaign finance violations happening this election cycle. So this is relatively low on the list, but it’s certainly not a frivolous complaint.”
The Brat campaign has since removed the book from their website.
The Brat campaign did not respond to requests for comment.
