New Georgia Poll: Warnock, Loeffler, Collins in Virtual Tie

Jun 29, 2020

Warnock starts race competitive, takes lead when voters learn more about him

In runoff, Warnock within margin of error against both Republicans

A new poll of Georgia voters, commissioned by End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) and conducted by Public Policy Polling (PPP), shows a virtual three-way tie among Rev. Raphael Warnock (20%), Senator Kelly Loeffler (21%), and Representative Doug Collins (23%) in the Georgia Senate race.

The poll shows Warnock, the only non-incumbent among the top three candidates, has room to grow, as many voters (35%) have yet to form an opinion of him and he has not begun significant paid advertising.

When voters hear Warnock’s bio he takes the lead with 36% to 23% for Collins and 18% for Loeffler. Warnock’s support for anti-corruption and voting rights reforms make voters more likely to support him. The biggest shift in support came from Democrats (31%), Independents (13%), and African American (30%) voters.

In head to head matchups for a runoff, Warnock is within the margin of error with both Republicans, leading Loeffler 43-40%, and just behind Collins at 43-41%.

“Despite lower name recognition than his opponents, Reverend Raphael Warnock is in a strong position to win this race,” said Tiffany Muller, president of ECU and LAV. “As his campaign diverts more resources to promote Warnock’s message and background, he’ll consolidate support from key voting groups in Georgia. These results spell trouble for Senator Loeffler and Rep. Collins as voters want to upend the corrupt status quo in Washington and are looking for candidates like Warnock, who will unrig the system so it works for everyone.”

The poll also found Biden leading Trump, 49-45% in the Presidential election.

PPP surveyed 734 Georgia voters from June 25-26 2020. The margin of error is +/- 3.6%.
