Washington, DC — A new poll of likely voters, commissioned by End Citizens United (ECU) and conducted by Global Strategy Group, shows challenger Jared Golden taking the lead in ME-02 as voters sour on Representative Bruce Poliquin, 48-42 percent. Click here to see the polling memo.
The poll finds that despite the fact that Poliquin is well-known, his favorability rating remains underwater by ten points, while Golden still has room to grow his profile with a positive favorability rating by nine points. Among party affiliation, Golden has a stronger lead with Democrats (+71%), than Poliquin has with Republicans (+56%). Notably, the poll shows Golden with an eight point lead among independent voters.
“Mainers want a leader who will fight for their best interests and give them a voice in Congress, not a career politician who looks out for his special interest donors,” said Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United. “Voters are fed up with Congressman Poliquin stacking the deck for Wall Street banks and payday lenders. Jared Golden offers a sharp contrast. He’s served his country, he’s taken on the rigged system, and Mainers known he’ll continue to put their needs first in Congress.”
ECU endorsed Jared Golden in May because of his commitment to ending Big Money in politics. During his time in the Maine State Legislature, Golden served on the committee that handles Maine’s election laws, and repeatedly defended the state’s clean election system to curb the influence of unlimited and undisclosed special interest money in the Maine. Golden is highlighting his commitment to reform by disavowing support from all secret donors, such as dark money groups, and rejecting corporate PAC money in his campaign.
Global Strategy Group surveyed 400 likely voters in ME-02 from October 9-12. The margin of error is +/- 4.9%.
