Ahead of Floor Vote, End Citizens United // Let America Vote Urges Passage of Freedom to Vote Act

Oct 19, 2021

With the Senate set to vote tomorrow on a once-in-a-generation anti-corruption and voting rights bill, the Freedom to Vote Act, End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement:

“We urge every Senator to vote in favor of the Freedom to Vote Act. This bill is a common-sense, effective measure that will protect the freedom to vote for all Americans, end dark money, stop partisan gerrymandering, and protect our elections from sabotage by ensuring that voters and election officials are safe from intimidation and future discriminatory efforts.

“We thank Majority Leader Schumer for his commitment to passing voting rights legislation and putting this bill on the floor of the Senate for a vote. We also applaud Senators Klobuchar, Manchin, Merkley, Warnock, and others for drafting and sponsoring this important bill. Their leadership has been invaluable in the fight to counter efforts to restrict access to the ballot box and ensure fair and equal representation for all voters.

“As the freedom to vote continues to come under attack and self-serving politicians in states across the country begin to use partisan gerrymandering to redraw congressional districts, allowing these politicians to pick their voters instead of empowering voters to pick their representatives, it is more urgent than ever that the Senate pass this bill.

“While we expect Senate Republicans to once again filibuster this legislation as they have done repeatedly, we urge the Senate to do whatever it takes to pass this bill. No outdated procedure or loophole should stand in the way of ensuring that every American can make their voice and vote heard in our democracy.”
