All in the Family: Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s Husband Writes $1 Million Check to Trump Super PAC

May 21, 2020

The unelected Georgia Senator has been embroiled in corruption scandals since the day she took office in January

End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller released the following statement after news broke that Senator Kelly Loeffler’s (R-GA) husband Jeff Sprecher, who is chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, donated $1 million to a pro-Trump super PAC, America First Action, after she has faced criticism for family stock trading:

“Since the day she took the oath of office, Senator Kelly Loeffler became one of the most corrupt members of Congress,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “With every new scandal that’s come to light, Loeffler proves that corruption ensues when an unelected and unqualified political donor is installed in public office. Loeffler’s husband’s recent million dollar donation to Donald Trump’s super PAC only reaffirms that she’s trying to buy Georgia’s Senate seat. We’ll make sure Georgians keep Kelly Loeffler accountable.”

Loeffler, a Big Money 20 incumbent, took office in January after pledging $20 million of her own fortune to defend her seat. Loeffler and her husband Jeffrey Sprecher have donated $3.2 million to political committees –– 97 percent of which went to Republican candidates and causes. Loeffler and her husband also have a history of contributing to Republicans involved in ethics, campaign finance, and other scandals, including to the campaigns of Big Money 20 members Sens. McSally, McConnell, Collins, Tillis, and Cornyn. In March, ECU endorsed Raphael Warnock for U.S. Senate in Georgia because of his commitment to rooting out corruption and protecting the right to vote.
