As Senate Prepares to Vote on the For the People Act, Americans Across the Country are Urging Congress to Pass the Bill

Jun 21, 2021

As the Senate prepares to vote to proceed on the once-in-a-generation voting rights and anti-corruption package, the For the People Act (H.R.1/S.1), people from across the nation are uniting behind one message: Pass the bill.

BLACK VOTERS RALLY FOR VOTING RIGHTS – Black Voters Matter and other voting rights advocates have been touring the south on their Freedom Ride for Voting Rights bus tour. With events in Atlanta, GA, Charleston, WV, Washington, DC, and more, they are traveling through important states promoting the For the People Act and calling on the Senate to pass this vital bill. Their Freedom Ride tour comes as Republican legislatures in the south are passing legislation designed to attack Black Americans’ ability to vote. Passing the For the People Act would counteract these restrictive voting measures and protect Americans’ freedom and fundamental right to vote.

TEXANS URGE CONGRESS TO CONTINUE THE FIGHT – After Texas Democrats heroically walked out of the Texas Capitol to prevent passage of SB7, one of the nation’s most restrictive elections bills, Beto O’Rourke wrapped up his Texas Drive for Democracy tour around Texas with a rally at the Texas State Capitol where he and hundreds of Texans urged the U.S. Senate to pass the For the People Act to stop the dangerous restrictive voting bills the Republican state legislature wants to pass.

BUSINESS LEADERS UNITE TO CALL ON CONGRESS TO PASS FOR THE PEOPLE ACT – Business leaders from across the country are calling on the Senate to pass the For the People Act. They understand that a healthy democracy is good for business and voter suppression isn’t. Last week, a new poll came out that showed 74% of small business owners support the For the People Act, and just this morning, more than 70 companies, including Patagonia, the NHL, and Ben & Jerry’s wrote a letter calling on the Senate to send the For the People Act to President Biden’s desk.

WV VOTERS URGE SENATOR MANCHIN TO SUPPORT VOTING RIGHTS BILL – After West Virginia veterans and business, labor, and political leaders in West Virginia rallied across the state to support the For the People Act, Senator Joe Manchin proposed a compromise and is working closely with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to pass critical voting rights legislation. Polls in West Virginia show that the For the People Act has broad, bipartisan support, with 79% of voters in the state backing the elections reform package, including three quarters of Republicans.

FOR THE PEOPLE ACT OVERWHELMINGLY SUPPORTED BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE – Most importantly, the American people–Democrats, Republicans and Independents– are overwhelmingly behind the bill. A new poll from Navigator Research found that the For the People Act has nearly 70% support nationwide, which is in line with other recent polls from both Democrats and Republicans, including polling from the Koch Brothers and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund has been leading the charge to pass this bold package of anti-corruption, voting, and ethics reforms, working with candidates and elected officials to make anti-corruption reform a top priority and encouraging Americans to demand that their congressional representatives pass the bill.

The Senate will be voting on a motion to proceed on the For the People Act on Tuesday, June 22.
