New FEC filings reported by Popular Info show that AT&T broke its promise to suspend donations to members of Congress who voted to overturn the results of the free and fair 2020 presidential election.
Just days after the deadly January 6 insurrection, AT&T announced a change in campaign contribution policy amid pressure from End Citizens United, but in August AT&T donated $15,000 to the NRSC, which is led by Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), who voted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Pennsylvania. The NRSC supports the re-election of Republican Senators who voted to overturn the 2020 election results.
This continues a long trend of AT&T funding extremist politicians and dangerous policies to maintain its political influence. On the day Texas Governor Abbott called a special session to pass his anti-voter bill, AT&T gave him $100,000, AT&T donated $574,000 to supporters of Texas’egregious restrictive voter law, making it one of the largest corporate donors to the politicians promoting this dangerous legislation, and gave $291,000 to sponsors of Texas’ extreme abortion ban.
“AT&T’s donations are despicable and dangerous. Not only is AT&T lying again about funding seditious members of Congress, but it is continuing to promote extremism, signaling that overturning the will of the people and restricting the freedom to vote is acceptable to the company, as long as it is able to maintain its influence in Washington and with important state officials,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “AT&T should request its money back and cease giving to extremist causes and politicians immediately.”
