End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement on a report from The Lever that Billy Long, Trump’s nominee to lead the IRS, had his personal campaign debt paid off by tax frauds who he’d be in charge of policing if he gets confirmed:
“Billy Long’s personal campaign debt was paid off by wealthy tax frauds seeking to curry favor. That tells us everything we need to know about how he would lead the IRS. This scheme is textbook pay-to-play corruption, and it should immediately disqualify him from running the very agency tasked with holding tax cheats accountable.
“Trump nominated Long for one reason: he’ll let billionaires and corporations game the system and avoid paying their fair share, while forcing working Americans to pick up the tab in an economy that’s already stacked against them. The Senate must reject his nomination.”
