Jim Bognet’s squeaker victory in last week’s Republican primary left a divided and contentious field heading into November, with several of his primary opponents refusing to endorse him.
So how was Bognet able to get through the primary? He was aided by a mysterious single-candidate super PAC. The Daily Beast takes a deep dive into the twisted finances of the super PAC.
“Jim Bognet squeaked across the finish line in this contentious primary because of his super PAC,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “These super PACs are funded by wealthy political donors that are counting on Jim Bognet to do their bidding in Congress. Meanwhile, Rep. Matt Cartwright is fighting to root out the outsized influence of Big Money special interests and helped pass the For the People Act, a once-in-a-generation anti-corruption and reform bill.”
ECU endorsed Rep. Matt Cartwright’s re-election campaign in September 2019 because of his commitment to rooting out corruption in Washington. The reform group has four million members nationwide, including 6,200 in PA-08, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
