End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the below statement in response to public statements from corporations related to protecting voting rights.
“A general statement from business leaders supporting the right to vote is a step in the right direction, but it rings hollow without any real substance. Without actual opposition to the specific state bills that will erect barriers to voting or unequivocal support for the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which will protect all Americans’ freedom to vote equally, these statements amount to little more than public relations cover.
“In fact, many of these same corporations have funded the very lawmakers who are leading these voter suppression efforts. They have also sent campaign cash to lawmakers who spread misinformation to cast doubt on the 2020 election results, and even voted to ignore the will of the people and overturn the election.
“These corporations and their leaders need more than platitudes. They must oppose the voter suppression laws across the country and call on the U.S. Senate to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect our democracy so it works for everyone.”
