End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller released the following statement after reports revealed Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bernie Moreno was sued by another former employee who says he wasn’t paid the wages Moreno promised:
“Bernie Moreno has a blatantly clear pattern of putting his own self-enrichment over the livelihood of his employees. It’s unacceptable that Ohioans working underneath him would have to worry about whether they’d receive their hard-earned wage—or if they’d be retaliated against when asking for what they were owed.
“Moreno’s record of wage theft should be disqualifying. If he can’t be trusted as a business owner, how can he expect Ohio voters to trust him in the Senate?”
Bernie Moreno’s shady business practices are a “liability” in his Senate campaign. Moreno has been at the center of over a dozen lawsuits after Moreno refused to pay his workers for the overtime they earned, then deliberately destroyed evidence he was legally required to keep to get out of the payments. In that case, Moreno was found liable for wage theft by a jury and he was forced to pay $400,000 in damages to his employees and settle over a dozen similar wage theft cases. After he got caught, Moreno repeatedly lied about the case even as multiple fact-checks found his excuses “false.”
It’s clear—Moreno is only out for himself.
