End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement condemning President-elect Donald Trump for appointing Brendan Carr, an ally of Elon Musk’s, to lead the Federal Communications Commission (FCC):
“Trump’s appointment of Brendan Carr to lead the FCC illustrates the power and control Elon Musk has amassed after spending over $200 million to get Trump in office. Now, Musk is pulling the strings to ensure he gets a massive return on his investment. With Carr leading the agency, Musk stands to gain billions of dollars in government subsidies for Starlink while benefitting from a lax regulatory environment tailored to his business agenda for X.
“This appointment isn’t just corrupt––it’s incredibly dangerous. Carr authored the FCC section of Project 2025, the right-wing manifesto for dismantling independent regulatory agencies. His opposition to oversight of internet platforms poses a grave threat to our country by allowing hate, racism, and bigotry to thrive online without any accountability.”
