Early Voting Reminder: Kelly Loeffler Is Washington Corruption At Its Worst

Dec 18, 2020

Senator Kelly Loeffler: unelected and corrupt. Despite the fact that Loeffler has been in the Senate for less than a year, her record is stained by rampant corruption. As Georgians cast their ballots in the runoffs, let’s walk down memory lane and remind voters who Kelly Loeffler truly is:

Loeffler Paid For Her Seat In The Senate

  • After a private meeting with Governor Kemp, Loeffler submitted a last-minute application to be considered for the Senate appointment.

  • What led to her being the chosen candidate? Loeffler promised to spend $20 million of her own wealth to defend the seat.

Loeffler Violated Ethics Rules

  • While Senator, Loeffler solicited campaign contributions for her run-off campaign during an on-camera interview taking place at the U.S. Capitol.

  • This is a violation of rules that prohibit Senators from soliciting campaign contributions from federal buildings.

Loeffler Used The Pandemic As An Opportunity To Enrich Herself

  • In January 2020, Loeffler attended a private all-Senators meeting about the coronavirus, getting insight and warnings about the implications this disease would have in the U.S.

  • From that day through Mid-February, Loeffler and her husband sold seven figures worth of stock.

    • Loeffler and her husband sold up to $3 million worth of securities just weeks before the stock market indexes took a dramatic tumble due to the coronavirus pandemic.

  • Loeffler and her husband bought stocks in companies that were sure to profit off the pandemic such as Citrix and Oracle, companies that would thrive due to the new digital work environment, and Dupont De Nemours, a company that manufactured protective equipment.

    • They did so, all before the implications of the virus were common knowledge to the general public.

Loeffler’s Work In The Senate Making Rich Husband Richer

  • Kelly Loeffler’s husband is Jeffrey Sprecher, the CEO of Intercontinental Exchange which owns the New York Stock Exchange among other financial marketplaces. Loeffler has never addressed this conflict of interest.

    • When first appointed she did not address any concerns regarding whether she would sit out votes and/or avoid committees that would influence her and her husband’s businesses.

  • Loeffler served on a Senate Agriculture Subcommittee which oversaw the federal commodity futures trading commission, a commission that regulated derivatives markets that traded on exchanges run by Intercontinental Exchange Inc, which was run by Loeffler’s husband.

  • Loeffler stepped down from this subcommittee once news broke that the company changed their compensation terms to give Loeffler awards worth more than $9 million, which was on top of her lucrative salary and $3.5 million bonus.

    • While stepping down, she made sure she took no responsibility – blaming the media for forcing her to resign from the position.

Loeffler Doesn’t Think Rules Apply To Her

  • When Loeffler was appointed to the Senate, she and her husband bought a multimillion-dollar private jet. She used the jet for campaign travel and may have deducted the private jet, after claiming she used the plane to “save taxpayer money.”

  • Loeffler appears to have omitted the holding company for the plane from her financial disclosures which would violate federal law and senate ethics rules that mandates these disclosures.
