End Citizens United on air with a $500,000 TV ad campaign to push back against barrage of attacks from Ron Johnson’s special interest allies

End Citizens United (ECU) today is launching a new ad in Wisconsin to push back against a barrage of attacks by Senator Ron Johnson’s special interest allies, which have spent weeks attacking Russ Feingold.

The ad spotlights a shady $10 million payout Johnson took from his company shortly before he was sworn in as Senator as well as a vote he cast to protect tax breaks for the world’s biggest oil companies.

“Ron Johnson epitomizes everything that’s wrong with Washington,” Tiffany Muller, ECU Executive Director, said.  “He took his corporate payout, voted against the needs of Wisconsin families, and helped the special interests stack the deck against the American people.  We need a reformer like Russ Feingold, who has taken on – and beaten – the special interests before.  He’ll lead the fight to clean up the mess in Washington.”

The ad is part of End Citizens United’s $483,000 television ad campaign that will run in Milwaukee through the election.

End Citizens United, which has more than 65,000 members in Wisconsin, has endorsed Feingold, who was a lead sponsor of major, bipartisan campaign finance reforms that have since largely been unraveled by the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United decision.  The grassroots-funded political action committee has also named Feingold as one of its Champions of Democracy.

Backup for the ad can be viewed here.

Twenty-one billion.
A Wisconsin Senator protecting tax breaks for oil companies.
That’s Ron Johnson. That’s Washington.
