ECU and LAV Stand with Rep. Lucy McBath Heading into General Election

Jun 10, 2020

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on news that Representative Lucy McBath (GA-06) is advancing to the general election:

“Congresswoman Lucy McBath is committed to fighting the broken system in Washington. McBath won this highly competitive district in 2018 by rejecting corporate PAC money and one of the very first bills she co-sponsored and helped pass in Congress was the For the People Act, the most comprehensive anti-corruption, voting rights, and ethics bill since Watergate. Meanwhile, Georgians voted ex-congresswoman Karen Handel out because corporate PACs bought her vote, giving her over $500,000. Handel is also one of the biggest enemies of voting rights in the country. We look forward to ensuring Rep. McBath’s re-election so she continues the incredible work she started.”

ECU endorsed McBath’s re-election campaign in March 2019 as part of the group’s first round of House incumbent endorsements. Unlike McBath, who has fought to root out corruption in Washington, Karen Handel voted with President Trump over 87 percent of the time and took over $500,000from corporate PACs during her one term in Congress. The reform group has four million members nationwide, including 7,400 in GA-06, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
