In light of Justice Thomas’ blatant corruption, it’s time for Chief Justice Roberts to live up to his words and act
Following the release of text messages that showed that Virginia ‘Ginni’ Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, worked with the Trump White House to silence the voice of the American people by overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election, it is clear that Justice Thomas faces an obvious conflict of interest in cases related to the January 6th insurrection and the Trump White House’s attempts to overthrow the election.
Chief Justice Roberts should insist Justice Thomas recuse himself from any cases connected to the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol and Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election results and immediately institute a code of conduct for Justices, including standards for recusals, steps to avoid conflicts of interests, and transparent financial disclosure reporting.
“If Chief Justice Roberts truly cares about the Supreme Court being seen as an independent, nonpartisan institution, he needs to enact tough ethics rules for Supreme Court Justices,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller. “From Justice Thomas’ blatant corruption, to the $48 million that dark money groups have spent to capture the Supreme Court, the American people are losing faith in the Court. The American people’s confidence in the Supreme Court will continue to fall unless Chief Justice Roberts takes proper measures and ensures the impartiality of the Supreme Court.”
