End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement in response to the Tennessee GOP’s decision to oust two Black lawmakers over their protest against gun violence:
“The actions of the Tennessee Republicans yesterday are appalling, abhorrent, and racist. They are so desperate to protect the gun lobby that they expelled two Black legislators for speaking out against gun violence following the horrific shooting at the Covenant School.
“This is a stain on our democracy and another escalation in the MAGA effort to attack our freedoms, including undermining the voice of the people.
“ECU // LAV stands with the lawmakers who stood up for the innocent lives lost to gun violence, especially with Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson, the two Black legislators who were unjustly expelled.
“We will work with our partners and allies to hold these MAGA republicans accountable.”
