ECU // LAV Endorses Governor Janet Mills for Reelection

Sep 29, 2022

End Citizens United // Let America Vote today endorsed Governor Janet Mills for reelection.

“Thanks to Governor Mills’ leadership, Maine ranks as one of the healthiest democracies in the nation. Even during the pandemic, she took action to make it easier and safer for Mainers to cast their ballots,” said ECU // LAV President Tiffany Muller. “From protecting access to the ballot box, to restoring ethics and accountability, to rooting out corruption, Governor Mills has always put Maine families ahead of special interests. We’re proud to endorse her for reelection.”

“I am proud to lead a state that is ranked as one of the healthiest democracies in America,” said Governor Janet Mills. “That’s not by mistake. It’s because Maine people understand the importance of voting and work hard to make sure that their voices are heard. I will continue to defend the right to vote, the foundation of our democracy, and to protect access to the ballot box for Maine people.”

As governor, Mills:

  • Expanded access to the ballot box and made it easier for Mainers to vote during the pandemic.

  • Stood up to Big Pharma to lower the cost of prescription drugs.

  • Expanded healthcare access to over 93,000 Mainers.

  • Stopped greedy polluters from harming Maine’s lands and waters.

This week, ECU // LAV released its State Democracy Scorecard, an assessment of the health of democracy in all 50 states. Thanks to Governor Mills, Maine ranked as the third healthiest democracy in the nation, including a perfect score for its voting laws. Its campaign finance laws and efforts to combat democracy subversion are also strong.

ECU // LAV is a leading anti-corruption and voting rights group. The grassroots-funded political action committee raised and spent $65.5 million in the 2020 election cycle to elect candidates fighting to limit the influence of big money in politics and protect the freedom to vote. ECU // LAV has more than four million members nationwide.
