ECU // LAV Praises Senators Kelly and Ossoff for Introducing Bill to Ban Corporate PACs

Jan 20, 2022

As they’ve done throughout their time in the Senate, Mark Kelly and Jon Ossoff are working for the American people and fighting against the corporate interests in Washington. Today, they’re doing that again by introducing the Ban Corporate PACs Act, which would end corporate PACs and limit the influence that corporations have over members of Congress.

“Senators Mark Kelly and Jon Ossoff continue to be leaders in the fight to end the corrupting influence of corporate money in politics,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller. “This bill will be a critical step in ensuring that our government works for the people, not Washington special interests and big donors. From skyrocketing prescription drug prices to tax breaks benefitting only the wealthy and big corporations, Americans see the corrupt broken system we currently have and the need for change. We’re grateful to Senators Kelly and Ossoff for introducing this important piece of legislation and look forward to passing it into law.”

The Ban Corporate PAC Act is a companion to a House bill introduced last year by Congressmen Josh Harder and Jared Golden. The bill would prevent corporations from having PACs, which allow them to give directly to the campaigns of members of Congress.

During the 2020 election, corporate PACs raised nearly $430 million and spent over $408 million, making them the biggest PAC spender in that election cycle.
