ECU // LAV Releases Video Highlighting Dark Money’s Role in Gun Violence

Apr 20, 2021

For the People Act would curb the gun lobby’s influence that has prevented reforms to reduce gun violence

End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund released a video condemning dark money’s role in continued gun violence and urging the U.S. Senate to pass the For the People Act (H.R. 1/S. 1). Despite the horrors of countless mass shootings — with 147 already in 2021 alone — Congress has been unable to pass substantial and popular reforms to reduce gun violence as a result of the gun lobby’s influence, including the hundreds of millions in big money and dark money it has spent on political donations, outside spending, and lobbying. The For the People Act would ban dark money and constrain the influence of such special interest groups in the political process.

“Enough is enough. It’s long overdue that Congress takes real steps to address the horrifying gun violence in our country,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller. “There are many commonsense steps we can take that are widely supported by voters across party lines. But until we stand up to dark money groups and curb the influence of the gun lobby, we won’t see any meaningful reforms. Congress needs to pass the For the People Act and pass it now. Lives depend on it.”

ECU // LAV Action Fund has been leading the charge to pass this bold package of anti-corruption, voting and ethics reforms, working with candidates and elected officials to make anti-corruption reform a top priority and encouraging Americans to demand that their congressional representatives pass the bill.
