End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller issued the below statement calling for accountability and passage of new legislation to protect democracy in response to the January 6 committee’s final report:
“We thank the January 6 committee for their serious work investigating the facts, circumstances and causes that led to the attack on our government as well as their commitment to protecting our democracy.
“The report provides great detail and insight into the planning and preparation of a plot to overthrow an election and incitement of the deadly riot at the Capitol. Now, there must be accountability.
“Congress is set to pass reforms to the Electoral Count Act and should also act on the other recommendations from the committee in the report. It should pass legislation to protect our democracy from major threats, such as attacks on the freedom to vote, extreme partisan gerrymandering, and the surge of dark money, which are radicalizing our politics and leading to the spread of disinformation and misinformation.”
