ECU // LAV Statement on Juneteenth

Jun 19, 2023

End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement in observance of Juneteenth:

“158 years ago today, the remaining enslaved Black Americans in Texas were freed, ending the abominable institution and practice of slavery in the United States. While this day is a cause for joy and celebration, it serves as a solemn reminder of the ongoing struggle against structural racism and the persistent inequalities faced by Black Americans. To this day, Black communities face targeted efforts aimed at diminishing their voting power and restricting access to the ballot box. On this Juneteenth, we recommit to fighting harder than ever to ensure every American has the freedom to vote and have their voice heard in our democracy.”
