ECU // LAV to Senate Judiciary Committee: Judge Jackson will Ensure Equality and Justice for All

Mar 21, 2022

On the first day of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing, End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund sent a letter to Senator Dick Durbin, Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Senator Chuck Grassley, Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, expressing support for Judge Jackson’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court.

See below for key points from ECU // LAV Action Fund’s letter:

  • Judge Jackson is an extraordinary nominee who has already been confirmed by the U.S. Senate on bipartisan grounds three times.

  • Judge Jackson has shown herself to be a fair, impartial juror that works to ensure equality and justice for all people, not just wealthy individuals and corporations.

  • Judge Jackson will protect the people on issues that impact their daily lives, like voting rights, workers’ rights, reproductive rights, civil rights, preventing gun violence, combating climate change, and ending the corrupting influence of big money in politics.

  • If confirmed, Judge Jackson will be the first Black woman to serve on the Court out of the 115 Supreme Court justices who have served since 1789.

  • Judge Jackson would also be the first public defender to serve, bringing an important diversity of experience to the Supreme Court. As a Justice, Judge Jackson will bring an important professional and experiential diversity that will help the court better understand how their decisions affect people with different backgrounds and life experiences.

  • Judge Jackson’s confirmation is also essential to bolster our democracy. Our democracy has been pushed to the brink in recent years, from dark money flooding into our politics and attacks on the freedom to vote to serious threats to the separation of powers. Judge Jackson has a record of preserving and growing a healthy democracy by requiring transparency, accountability, and the proper enforcement of checks and balances.

  • It is indisputable that Judge Jackson has the necessary qualifications and background to be a superb Supreme Court justice.

  • Judge Jackson has always shown herself to be a fair, impartial jurist that will protect the constitutional rights of all people, including the most sacred and fundamental right to vote.

  • We unequivocally support the confirmation of Judge Jackson and strongly urge all senators to vote to vote for her historic confirmation.
