End Citizens United Action Fund Endorses CORE Act to Prevent Corruption in COVID-19 Relief

May 21, 2020

End Citizens United//Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement in support of the CORE Act to ensure oversight, transparency, and accountability in the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic:

“We applaud Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Chris Coons (D-DE) and Reps. John Sarbanes (MD-03) and Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) for their leadership and commitment to rooting out corruption in government. It’s critical that the billions of dollars in COVID-19 relief funds allocated by Congress aren’t used to reward President Donald Trump’s friends and wealthy political donors at the expense of the millions of American families and small businesses suffering through this crisis. The CORE Act would ensure oversight of the Administration’s allocation of these funds, transparency in how they’re being spent, and accountability for any efforts to reward the President’s wealthy friends and special interest donors. Congress should immediately take up and pass this important legislation.”

The bill would prohibit conflicts of interest in dispersal of relief funds, empower and protect Inspectors General, strengthen the Congressional Oversight Commission created under the CARES Act, require transparency of relief funding lobbying, and many other measures to ensure openness and accountability in the management of these vital programs to help Americans get through this crisis.
