End Citizens United Action Fund Statement on the Removal of Independent Watchdog

Apr 07, 2020

End Citizens United Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the removal of Glenn Fine as the chairman of a new Pandemic Response Accountability Committee, which will serve as an independent watchdog to oversee how the government implements the $2 trillion coronavirus relief bill:

“In these critical and unprecedented times, the American people are seeking competence, expertise and transparency from their government officials. President Trump should be doing everything possible to ensure that the coronavirus relief package, a two trillion dollar bill funded by taxpayers, is allocated effectively to help boost the economy and help American families. Instead, Trump is upending the panel that oversees how funds are spent by removing a career inspector general from his post on the panel. The risk of corruption by this President and his cronies is already high and without effective oversight President Trump can fleece the American taxpayer to benefit himself and corporate special interests. Trump’s corruption, even in the midst of a crisis, knows no bounds. The American people deserve better.”
