End Citizens United Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s Shelby County v. Holder decision anniversary:
“Our democracy only works when every American has equal access to the ballot. In the six years since the Supreme Court’s Shelby County v. Holder decision, voting rights across the country have been under attack. Twenty states have implemented restrictive voter ID laws, closed polling places, eliminated same-day voter registration, and shortened early voting periods. These calculated tactics are an affront to our democracy and benefits those in power while suppressing low income and minority voters.
“Today, on the anniversary of Shelby County v. Holder, End Citizens United calls on Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act by fighting to pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act and the For the People Act to protect every American’s right to vote. We must fight back against voter suppression in every form and build the representative democracy our nation deserves.”
