End Citizens United and Let America Vote Action Funds’ Statement on House Passage of Washington, D.C. Admission Act

Jun 26, 2020

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) Action Funds President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the passage of the Washington, D.C. Admission Act (H.R. 51) in the U.S. House, a bill to grant statehood to Washington, D.C.:

“Washingtonians are Americans who deserve full representation, self-government and the same rights as citizens living in states. For too long, D.C.’s 700,000 residents, the majority of whom are Black and brown, have served on juries, fought in our military and paid federal taxes without representation in Congress. The fight for D.C. statehood is the fight for racial and governmental justice, and President Trump’s gross display of power over the city’s residents amid Black Lives Matter protests underscores the critical need to end this discriminatory status and grant the District the same constitutional rights as the 50 states. End Citizens United and Let America Vote applaud Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Speaker Pelosi, Leader Hoyer and the Democratic House majority for introducing and passing this important piece of legislation, and we urge the Senate to make this bill law so that all Americans are equally protected.”
