Luján has made anti-corruption and government reform a cornerstone of his campaign by rejecting corporate PAC donations
End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement congratulating Congressman Ben Ray Luján on winning the General Election for U.S. Senate in New Mexico:
“Congratulations to Senator-elect Ben Ray Luján. In his campaign for Senate, Ben Ray rejected all corporate PAC money, becoming the highest-ranking member of Democratic leadership to do so. As a Congressman and the Assistant Speaker of the House, Congressman Luján helped lead the Democratic Caucus in passing the For the People Act, the most sweeping anti-corruption, ethics and voting rights bill in a generation. Now, Ben Ray is taking his fight for democracy reform to the U.S. Senate. As Senator, he will work to overturn the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United that allowed an influx of corporate money into our elections. Senator-elect Luján has been a champion of rooting out corruption in the House, and we’re excited to see him continue this incredible work in the Senate.”
ECU and LAV endorsed Ben Ray Luján in May 2019 because of his commitment to getting Big Money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington so the government works for all Americans. ECU raised and donated more than $38,500 in small dollar grassroots contributions from its members this cycle to Luján’s campaign and hosted two virtual campaign events discussing his commitment to taking on corruption in Washington and passing reforms to end the influence of Big Money and protect the right to vote. The reform group has four million members nationwide, including over 23,400 in New Mexico, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
