End Citizens United and Let America Vote Congratulate Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin on General Election Win in MI-08

Nov 04, 2020

Slotkin rejects corporate PAC money and helped pass the For the People Act, a once-in-a-generation reform bill

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on news that Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin (MI-08) won re-election in MI-08:

“Congratulations to Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin. Elissa is a standout member of a new generation of leaders fighting to root out corruption in Washington. In 2018, she flipped this battleground district by rejecting corporate PAC money and running to put Michiganders ahead of corporate special interests. Since she first stepped foot on Capitol Hill, Elissa followed through on her promise and put Michigan families first by making the passage of the For the People Act her first priority, the biggest anti-corruption, voting rights and ethics reform bill in a generation. Michiganders re-elected Elissa Slotkin because whether it’s working to lower prescription drug prices or preventing foreign interference in our elections, she has been laser-focused on delivering results for families. We’re proud to support Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, and we’re thrilled to continue working alongside her in the fight against corruption.”

ECU and LAV endorsed Elissa Slotkin for re-election in March 2019 as part of the group’s first round of House incumbent endorsements because of her commitment to unrig the broken system in Washington. ECU raised and donated nearly $140,000 in small dollar grassroots contributions from its members this cycle to Slotkin’s campaign and hosted two virtual campaign events discussing her commitment to taking on the corruption in Washington and passing reforms to end the influence of Big Money and protect the right to vote. Slotkin, who ran on a platform of reform in both 2018 and 2020, rejects corporate PAC and showed leadership in the passage of the For the People Act (H.R.1). The reform group has four million members nationwide, including over 8,300 in MI-08, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
